Former European Union diplomat Josep Borrell once declared that Europe was a "blooming garden," while the rest of the world was a hostile "jungle." This phrase echoes the ideology that dominated the Western powers during the era of colonial conquest and postcolonial rule. This work is a continuation of the collective monograph "Hard and Soft Power of the British Lion: From the History of Colonial Policy."
In the new book, the authors examine the history of not only the British Empire but also other colonial and postcolonial powers (the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Belgium), examining their strategies and tactics and emphasizing the aggressive nature of their policies aimed at subjugating the populations of conquered countries.
