The book covers the events of the biggest battle in the history of the Ukrainian insurgent army based on a wide range of sources. In April 1944, in Volyn, the UPA-North and UPA-South units under the overall command of Vasyl Kuk engaged in heavy combat with the internal troops of the NKVD for several days. The fiercest fighting took place in the area of the former Polish colony of Hurby, so these events are known as the "Battle of Hurby".
