This book provides an overview of the history of the Baltic States in the wars of the 20th century. The 20th century was very important for Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, because as a result of the First World War, the Russian Empire collapsed and therefore these countries had the opportunity to gain independence. The declared independence had to be defended in the wars of independence that had already begun, and these countries survived! However, the period of independence was short, only 20 years, because the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact signed on August 23, 1939, gave the Baltic States the sphere of influence of the USSR, and in the summer of 1940, the Soviet Union occupied them. In the midst of World War II, both the German and Soviet occupation powers changed, and finally the Baltic states managed to restore their independence with the collapse of the USSR, Lithuania in 1990, Estonia and Latvia in 1991.
