This book is an attempt to conduct an extensive survey of the history of teachers' training in Latvia. The authors of the represented articles disclose the main tendencies and prevailing doctrines, which influenced strongly the development of professional education. They describe the structure of educational institutions and investigate activities of teachers' training colleges and pedagogical universities of different historical periods from ancient times till the middle of the XXth century. The collection also gives an insight of educational system of the present-day Latvia.
