The emirate of Bukhara which was situated on the contemporary territory of Uzbekistan has many centuries of history. Once it was one of the main trade, transport, and cultural centers of the Islamic world. The given book introduces the reader to the latest period of the emirate's history, the beginning of the XXth century. Defeated by Russia in 1866, the emirate became a Russian protectorate in 1868. In 1920, a prolonged battle with Bolshevik forces took place. After that the territory of the emirate was torn to pieces by the Soviet authorities and divided between Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
