This book is a super interesting artistic story. A novel in letters that could be a film! A young, handsome, talented Lviv artist Ivan Ostafiichuk decided to flee the USSR — from the surveillance of the KGB, complete censorship, and arrests in L'viv in the 1970s. Ukrainian acquaintances from the diaspora advised him to have a fictitious marriage. They offered Natalka Husar, who was then a student at an art college, as the “bride.” Natalka agreed to the role. And she played her in letters for over five years. And so much so that the author of the introductory article, cultural anthropologist Nataliia Khanenko-Friesen, doubted the fictitiousness of the romance between Ivanko and Natalka.
