There is a lot of professional literature on the modernization ideas of Slovak society that Ludovit Stur had in the fields of political science, culturology, history, philosophy, linguistics and literature. Little and usually negative was written about Stefan Launer, who did not represent the main line of the Slovak nationalist movement in the 19th century and, moreover, was the main opponent of Stur's linguistic nationalism. The reason was mainly his negative attitude to Stur's codification language initiative from 1843. Another reason was his inclination towards Hungarian liberal political modernism, which at that time greatly hindered the dominant conservative Sturovo line of Slovak politics. The second reason why Stefan Launer's professional attention is paid in this publication is his ethnic-modernization theory, which has not received sufficient attention in the domestic professional community. Although this theory has a Hegelian manuscript, it is authentic and original in that it draws attention to the ideological doctrines according to which Slavs can contribute to the development of world history without mastering Western European education. Instead of expanding and deepening these doctrines, Launer offers its own solution, which consists in the Europeanization of Slavic nations by adapting the achievements of the cultural and political modernization of the dominant Western European nations. At the time of its inception, Launer's theory was an idealistic project to which, for obvious reasons, the opposition Sturovo nationality elite did not pay attention.
