The research traces historical dynamics of the interaction between languages - components of language situation in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania in the course of the last two centuries. Having described the present-day state of the Ossetian language, the author attempts at forecasting social consequences of the processes of language assimilation and acculturation of the above language, offering as well a long-term program of the republican language policy.
