Stalin prizes in literature and art is one of the problems that remain insufficiently studied even nowadays. The compilers of the offered collection concentrate their attention upon the relationship between authority and creative intelligentsia in the period from 1939 to 1953, and first of all manage to destroy with the help of documents the stereotype that only "potboilers-timeservers" won Stalin awards. Nevertheless, the materials show that presence of severe pressure in the form of total censorship and ideological campaigns led to the situation, when destinies of many eminent laureates were dramatically and even tragically colored.
