Alexander Albrecht's songs document not only his personal development from a children's composition inspired by classicist or early romantic songs to a very personal lyrical ensemble, which we can call an 'Art Nouveau song' or a 'modernist song.' A similarly wide range is shown by the songs set to music - the author moves from a classicist or romantic song to an expressive modern expression, but also under the influence of German poet-aphorists tends to the miniature of song, as manifested in the work of the second Viennese school. In Albrecht's songs, wit or loving joke is balanced by epic breadth or apocalyptic vision. Most of the lyrical songs were undoubtedly stimulated by a feeling of love - love for a woman or love for a child. Albrecht's song legacy consists of 30 songs setting music to German poetry, six arrangements of songs from the German folk or folk tradition, three songs setting music to Hungarian verses and three arrangements of Slovak folk songs. This edition is based on sources stored in the Music Museum of the Slovak National Museum and in the Bratislava City and University Library.
