The monograph is devoted to the history of the Ryukyu Kingdom on the Okinawa Islands, which has not yet been an object of comprehensive research in Russian historiography, and is still one of the insufficiently studied themes in Japanese Studies in Russia. The Ryukyu Kingdom was a unique state entity, the emergence, formation and development of which had been influenced by the cultures of China and Japan. It was located on the territory of the modern Japanese prefecture of Okinawa, where numerous historical and written sources are preserved. Nowadays, Okinawa is one of the most distinctive and unique regions in Japan, where the synthesis of Chinese and Japanese cultures is most clearly manifested. This work bridges the significant gaps in the study of the history of the socio-political history of the Ryukyu Kingdom and at the same time provides a new insight into a whole range of issues related to the formation, development of the Kingdom and the interaction of the Far East countries identifying general patterns and specific features of these processes in different periods.
