The analysis of the broad spectrum of realistic tendencies in the Russian artistic culture of the XXth century shows, that besides the official art of the socialist realism in the USSR there existed a realistic art which was not engaged politically. Various “Russian realisms” are portrayed in the process of their intrinsic development, and the parallels with the traditions of the Peredvizhniki and impressionism, Paul Cezanne and numerous innovators and masters of European modernism and avant-garde are mentioned.
