This monograph provides data about the dangerous processes and phenomena associated with snow on the Sakhalin Island. The most dangerous processes for population and economy are snowfalls, snowstorms, snow-drift transport, anthropogenic snow patches, snow loads and snow avalanches. Cyclical changes in the occurrence of winter seasons with maximum impact on the population and economy of the island are shown. Some qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the considered processes and maps of their distribution and/or intensity on the territory of the Sakhalin island are described. The method of snow hazard assessment based on the qualitative assessment of the consequences of dangerous processes associated with snow on the urban areas is proposed. The cities and districts of the island most exposed to these processes are identified.
