First publication of a novel by author, poet, and Don Cossack Pavel Poliakov [1902-1991]. He wrote the novel in Germany, where he emigrated after the Revolution, but he was unable to complete it before he died. His novel--about the tragic fate of many Cossacks in the years immediately after the Revolution--was recently completed by Iu. V. Derbskii and G. I. Andreeva. With an introduction by K. N. Khokhul'nikov.
