The proceedings consider the most important battles which took place in the South of the country in 1941-1943, such as the struggles at the Mius-Front and in the great bend of the Don, the Battle of the Caucasus, the Battle of Stalingrad and their role in the history of the Great Patriotic War. Significant attention is paid to new sources and approaches to the study of the wartime events, the problems of everyday life at the front, the mass consciousness of the Soviet society, occupation, resistance and collaborationist movement on the occupied territory, contribution of the Soviet home front to the Victory, as well as to the reflection of these issues in the historical memory of the region's population.
