For the first time in centuries-old history of Polish-Russian relations this collection presents, on the basis of documents and evidences of witnesses, the events connected with forcible and voluntary settlement of Poles beyond Urals in the XVIIth-XXth centuries. Though the authors examine the reasons of forming the "black myth of Siberia" well spread in Poland, they try to show a reverse side of events: contribution of the Poles to assimilating the new lands within Russian Empire, to ethnographic and linguistic studies in Siberia, to various geographic explorations in the region.
