A clash between the believers of the Shuisky district of the Ivanovo-Voznesensk province, who opposed the campaign to confiscate church valuables, and the authorities took place on March 15, 1922, on the square in front of the Resurrection Cathedral in the city of Shuya. Shuya unrest was the first case of serious protest of believers against the campaign. On the part of believers, several thousand people participated in them.
