The characters of the book, Soviet scientists, occultists, special and intelligence services' officers and diplomats, shared the common passionate desire - to get into contact with Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet. The desire rooted in different reasons: some were seeking Shambala, the Buddhist legendary spiritual land, and its Veiled Knowledge, others wanted to establish Soviet influence on the region.
