Being the first volume of the three-volume monograph devoted to the Russian conductor, contrabass player and musical-public figure Sergei Kusevitskii (1874-1951), the edition sheds light upon his life, which is truly rich in events and meetings. Kusevitskii experienced three revolutions and two world wars. He played for Chaykovski and Leo Tolstoi and with Sobinov and Shalyapin. He made friends with Rakhmaninov, Skriabin, Stanislavskii, Stravinskii and Prokofiev, Ravel and Debussy.
