Vitaut Tumash is one of many Belarusian emigrants who returned to their home country after many years. He did not return physically, or in his recollections and memoirs, but he came back with his works. Tumash was an untiring historian, researcher, public activist and real Belarusian. Selected Works features the most interesting and significant pieces by the historian, including his research into cultural processes, publications of the Statute of the Grand Duchy of Litva, works about book printing in Belarus and first book printer Francisak Skaryna. Regretfully, Tumash's works became available in Minsk as late as 1993. Some of his papers were published in the press like, for instance, Skaryna u Padui [Skaryna in Padua], Palenne knihau Skarynu u Maskve [The Burning of Skaryna Books in Moscow] and Dyplyamatychnaya kantraversiya 1646 hodu za belaruskuyu movu [1646 Diplomatic Controversy Around the Belarusian Language]. Selected Works is the only publication in Belarus containing Tumash's thorough studies.
