The edition presents the first study on the evolution of sculpture in Rome during the second half of the XVIIIth century. The study includes the analysis of creativity of foreign artists who have contributed to the formation of neo-classical sculpture. Collections of the Hermitage and other Russian museums allow us to see this process in first-class sculptures. Most of them were purchased directly from the authors by Russian art lovers in Rome. Therefore, a significant portion of the book is devoted to the history of Russian travelers in the "eternal city". The edition is based on original documents and notes left by the travelers and contains 130 illustrations.
