In this collective monograph, for the first time in literary studies, the task is set to develop a system of scientific principles for commenting on the writer's work, based on the study of the entire set of circumstances in the context of which the works of M.A. Sholokhov were created - historical, historical-literary, biographical, etc. Particular attention is paid to the issues of textual criticism. The scientists used the results of commenting on the works of Russian classics, as well as the accumulated experience of the textological school of the IMLI RAS.
