Vladimir Kopytkov is a well-known scientist in near and far abroad who specializes in growing planting material and reforestation. He is one of the few doctors of agricultural sciences awarded this degree both in Belarus and the Russian Federation. Since 1982, Vladimir Kopytkov has been working at the Institute of Forestry of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. During this time, he patented dozens of inventions and scientific discoveries.
In 1986, after the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, more than 250 thousand hectares of agricultural land with an increased level of radioactive contamination were transferred to the Ministry of Forestry.
It was impossible to plant forests in the usual way - due to the vastness of the territories and the risk to the health of people who would have to work in the resettlement zone. A bet should have been made on air- and auto-sowing, but these methods were less productive than manual planting of seedlings.
A way out was found when the work of young candidate of sciences Vladimir Kopytkov won the Republican competition of scientific and technical ideas. He proposed to apply the drug treatment of pine seed material during reforestation works by aerial seeding and self-seeding. In one granule, several pine seeds were combined together with the mineral fertilizer component, and this increased the germination and survival of plants many times over.
Over 40 years of fruitful work, offers to move to other countries have been received repeatedly. But the patriotic scientist never even considered such a possibility.
