According to the ancient chronicle of the 13th century in year 1201 Archbishop Albert ordered to start the erection of the diocese on the bank of Daugava River that acquired the name of Riga. Few years later, in 1211, behind the walls of the diocese was built a religious school - the school the history of Lettish education has begun with. The author traces the history of Lettish education back to this school and finished his narration with 1945, when Lettish educational system merged with that of the Soviet Union.
