BOOK OF THE YEAR 2018
ARSENNEVA AWARD '2019
The epistolary poem by Mary Martysevich describes a love story that took place unknown if and where it is unknown. But it doesn't matter, because "Sarmatia" is also a story about what usually happens to people who decide not to be like everyone at any time and in any country. Sarmatians are semi-mythical nomads described by Herodotus. Their tribes inhabited the Northern Black Sea in the III-IV centuries. n. e. A dozen centuries later, they began to lead a kind of nobility of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Commonwealth, thus separating themselves from the peasant family. The author of the poem tries to hear the play of this "good old noble Sarmatism" in 21st century Belarus.
