Salmon - a species of salmon - pink, soft edible fish associated with the vagina. Sofia Andrukhovych, using this ambiguity, writes about female sexuality and at the same time travels to childhood and adolescence. This journey is rich in tastes and smells, full of erotic connotations. Following the author, we see a small apartment near a psychiatric hospital, in the yard of which, as in the Garden of Eden, children pick sour apples and try to smoke for the first time, school friends of the protagonist and even a scene of defloration. "Salmon" is a kind of intimate autobiography - sweet and delicious at the same time. Sophia's story is unpretentious and sensitive. Even the ugly voyeur is endowed in her work with human features, and ordinary people are full of mysteries and desires. It is thanks to the style of writing that Sofia Andrukhovych creates an atmosphere that contains an element of sadness and deep humanism. The book was shortlisted for the BBC Book of the Year 2007 competition. The novel won the second prize at the Best Ukrainian Book competition in 2008 from the Correspondent magazine.
