The monograph is devoted to the study of the biography and written legacy of the researcher-theologian, Qadi Tarkovsky shamkhal Salman at-Tlukhi (d. 144/1731-32), and his relatives. Two works by Salman at-Tlukhi devoted to the grammar of the Arabic language and the history of Dagestan's relations with Iran, the Ottoman Empire, and Russia in the 16th and early 18th centuries are considered in details. The author of the last essay is listed as "Shaikh-l-Islam" of Dagestan (Salman-Afandi). A separate historical essay is devoted to the small homeland of this dynasty, the village of Tlokh. The monograph presents translations and descriptions of 56 Arabic-language documents, records, and other information that are valuable sources not only on the biography of Salman at-Tlukhi but also on the socio-political life of that era.
