The book is devoted to the events of August - October 1981, when a natural disaster occurred on Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands, caused by a powerful deep cyclone and unprecedented destructive typhoons: August 3 - "Ojen", August 5 - "Phyllis", August 22-23 - "Ted", September 3–4 – "Agnes", September 29 – "Clara", October 22–23 – "Gay". This is the first time such a natural disaster has been recorded in the history of the region.
