Danica Igrutinovic's book Sacred and Sacrilegious in Postsecular Serbia represents an excellent interpretative, clearly contextualized and example-rich analysis of the concepts and practices of performing the sacred and sacrilegious in the area of ??the postsecular socio-political environment in Serbia. By clearly mapping the theoretical, but also performative areas of the sacred and sacrilegious and exposing them to critical review in the context of their use in postsecular society, Danica Igrutinovic confronts the issue of sacredness and sacrilege with issues of freedom – of expression, thought, speech and, ultimately, religion. In this sense, Danica Igrutinovic's book represents a valuable contribution both to the analysis of contemporary cultural and subcultural practices in the domain of religion in Serbia, and to the understanding of everyday, profane, social, political and politicized responses to free expression in the domain of iconography of the sacred and/or belief. Positioned in this way, the book Sacred and Sacrilegious in Postsecular Serbia directly connects to religious studies and cultural studies, but it can also be useful to those who study anthropological sciences and other broader social and humanistic approaches to contemporary culture. Finally, I recommend the book to all those who are engaged in the analysis of contemporary media and artistic practices, since they will find a large number of relevant case studies in it, many of which belong to the domain of contemporary fine arts and visual media expression.
