Poshekhon'e, a small town in Yaroslavl district, is a homeland of many distinguished politicians and statesmen, scientists, artists, writers and poets. The participants of scientific seminar organized in this town in 1999 believe that people should begin the rebirth of Russia from such godforsaken places. Their scientific work devoted to Russian folk culture represents an attempt to begin such rebirth and is based on the study of folk culture in Poshekhon'e district and other regions of Russian North.
