In this book are discussed the up-to-date, insufficiently studied problems in the history of Russian universities, mainly from the XIX-till the beginning of the XXth centuries. The process of opening and closing of universities in pre-revolutional Russia is considered here. The book also includes information regarding Voronezh university and rectors' composition of Moscow University during all the time of its existence. Special research work is carried out to analyze the preparation of the University Regulations in 1935, as well as correlations of universities and censorship. A separate part of the book is dedicated to scientific and educational activity of the following professors: D. Kovalchenko, V. Butenko, N. Kareev, N. Popov and others.
