The basic work by N.F.Dubrovin (1837-1904), an outstanding Petersburg historian, academician and secretary of Petersburg Imperial Academy of Sciences, had never been published as a scientific monograph. In the course of 1898-1903 the work by Dubrovin was being published in the “Russian Antiquity” historical magazine. Dubrovin’s research covers the first decades of the Russian history of the XIXth century. It is a detailed analytic review of the public sentiments during the period of Alexander’s governing in the context of changes in the governmental policy. The main part of the research is dedicated to studying daily life of different population sections, a relevant course in the modern historical science, what makes the present historical work so unique and peculiar.
