How effectively do Russian banks work? The question is pari passu significant both for financial economy as a whole and for any single bank client. The deficit of studies dedicated to the bank effectiveness is felt in Russia nowadays. Center of economic studies of the Moscow financial industrial academy has carried out investigation of the effectiveness of the one hundred of the biggest banks at the background of their financial accountability data. Economic methods applied by central banks abroad have been used for the analysis. As a result a range of regularities revealed in the international studies have not proved out in Russian conditions, that tells about the specificity of Russian banks’ activity. It is a signal for a more thorough study of the corresponding bank sector for foreign gamblers who would like to enter the Russian market.
