The monograph covers a little studied aspect of Russian culture, initiated by the dramatic epoch of Napoleon wars, and Patriotic war of 1812 in particular. The book traces the origins of “Napoleon legend” and “Napoleon myth”, its intrusion in Russian socio-cultural sphere and outlook of the educated part of Russian society of the end of the XVIII – the beginning of the XX centuries. Special attention is paid to interpretation and comprehension of the image of Napoleon by such outstanding representatives of Russian culture as A.S.Pushkin, M.Yu.
