At the beginning of the XXIst century Japan took a new turn in its development. Tokyo is striving to occupy a different place in the world politics corresponding to its economic power. This attempt coincides in time with the rise of China, that creates a totally new situation in Eastern Asia. Moscow, in its turn, experiences the growing pressure from the main geopolitical challenge of the XXIst century – the fate of the Russian Far East and Western Siberia. Thus, Russia is trying to retain its integrity by launching a new model of development. The book is devoted to these and other related political and economic questions.
