The Polish-Belarusian collection of studies on different paths of achieving independence for both hard-hit by the history of nations, in the case of Belarusians - especially by the newest one, as well as on the issues of ethnography, self-perception or historical memory, mainly organizes the current state of knowledge and introduces into circulation less sometimes known facts. Belarus, for many terra incognita observers in Poland, once so close due to the common state history, today almost grows, in popular opinion, into an area if not exotic, then peculiar and de facto unknown. The publication is to modestly contribute to change for the better, especially in a difficult historical moment for Belarusians, which, unfortunately, briefly attracted the attention of international opinion, which was stated in an interview with the editor of the volume, prof. Dorota Michaluk, an expert in recent Belarusian history.
