Six thousand years ago on the territory between the rivers Tigris and Euphrates a great and powerful civilization of Ancient Mesopotamia had arisen. Akkad, Babylonia, and Assyria - we inherited their knowledge in the field of astronomy, mathematics, jurisprudence, philology and some subjects from the Bible. All these cultural achievements were tied with religious traditions that were based on numerous rituals. Rituals symbolically regulated the life of the whole country, as well as the life of separate persons. The work by Emel'ianov deals with theories of ritual origin in the modern science; with the notion of ritual as the population of Akkad, Babylonia, and Assyria saw it. Some chapters are devoted to the meaning of ritual in different epochs of the history of Ancient Mesopotamia; to interaction of ritual and technique of healing magic in the depuration ceremonies. The appendix includes Akkad ritual texts, translated for the first time into Russian.
