Ethnologist and cultural historian Maria Maierchyk dedicated her monograph “Ritual and Body: Ukrainian Rites of Transition” to the semiotics of corporeality in traditional ritual. The study shows how, thanks to the symbolic play of the loss and acquisition of bodily functions, as well as through the designation of such ritual characteristics of the body as androgyny and asexuality, cocoonomorphism and disintegration, the transition of a person to another social status was carried out.
