Macedonia is undoubtedly the most romantic Bulgarian national dream, which has brought more anguish and bitterness than joy for the Bulgarian soul over the last 150 years. For brief moments in history, the dream became reality. One of these moments is described by Sotir Nanev in the present book. Born in Prilep, Nanev was a Bulgarian military officer who was among the first to march into the newly liberated Bulgarian lands in 1941 during World War II. He helped organize an interim administration before the official Bulgarian authorities took over. Nanev tells about the enthusiasm of the people who welcomed him and his team in every town they visited. The scenes he describes attest to the Bulgarian character of the population in Macedonia.
