In the literary criticism the predecessors of Pushkin were considered from the point of view of their significance for the formation and development of the genius poet. The goal of the monograph is to show how in his work Pushkin enriched traditions of his literary teachers (K.N.Batyushkov, V.A. Zhukovsky, G. Byron, G.R.Derzhavin, W.Scott) and discovered ideological and artistic potentials that were not fully realized in the work by his predecessors.
