The book deals with regional political development in Russian Federation embracing the period from 1990 to 2007. An attempt to embed the Pskov region elections into the all-Russian context, revealing common features and local peculiarities of electoral preferences of Pskov constituency, tracing the evolution of its predilections and highlighting the impact of a dramatic crash of the political system at the turn of the century on the electoral behavior of the population of this North-West district of Russia is undertaken. Based on a comprehensive analysis of an impressive body of statistical data and political processes of two last decades, the author managed to construct a model of the electoral behavior of Pskov region inhabitants, associating the ballot with the specificity of social-economic development of the area as well as with tricky political technologies involved. The monograph not only converts a reader into a spectator of a fascinating drama of stiff fight for power and the implantation of a variety of political technologies, but also gives him a chance to witness the formation of self-esteem and consciousness of Pskov electorate.
