The monograph is based on the successfully defended dissertation of the young Bulgarian scholar Nadya Vladimirova. It draws on four years of field research on the Armenian communities in eight Bulgarian cities: Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Ruse, Shumen, Haskovo and Pazardzhik, as well as the Italian capital Rome. The study looks at the Armenians as a traditional ethnoreligious community in Bulgaria, noting their closeness to the Bulgarians in terms of religion and history and their being well-received, relatively few in number and well-integrated. The cultural heritage of the Armenians in Bulgaria is presented as part of Bulgaria's national heritage.
