Kiev. 1911 year. Vladimir Shulzhenko meets an interesting announcement in the newspaper: the son of a sugar refinery promises a prize of a million rubles to someone who can cure his bride from cancer. At the same time, the bodies of kidnapped young girls are found in the city, torn to pieces by a killer nicknamed the Murderer. Psychiatrist Yasnogorskiy attracts Shulzhenko to investigate the abandoned serf casemates, where cases of insanity were recorded among the soldiers on guard.
