The offered book tells the life history of a forgotten but at the same time worthy figure. Prince Georgy L'vov came to politics from the Zemstvo movement - a sort of "local self-government" in the pre-revolutionary Russia. Staunch liberal, L'vov, however, made friends with imperialist Stolypin. After the downfall of czarism, he was proposed for the post of prime minister, but, owing to his deep religiousness and lenience, was unable to resist intrigues, and unavoidable collapse of the state, which soon led to L'vov's retirement. After the October Revolution, the prince just missed being killed by shooting, in years of the Russian Civil War helped Kolchak, and later left to France, where he spent the rest of his life in beggardom.
