The author of the book is a Doctor of History. She narrates about the last general-mayor of the Amur region N. Gondatti (1860-1946). The Amur is a river in the northeast Asia flowing mainly along the border between China and Russia. One of the chief waterways of Asia, it drains into the Tatar Strait opposite Sakhalin Island. Was Gondatti just a subordinate bureaucrat and a Tsar's official or highly educated, energetic administrator who contributed greatly to the study of the Russian Far East?
