This monograph focuses on the broader cultural and historical context and analyses the contribution of the Tepla Premonstratensians to the establishment, development and transformation of the Pilsen Grammar School (1776-1922) and the Pilsen Institute of Philosophy (1804-1848). The publication presents the efforts of the Premonstratensian Order in the creation of these important schools, which were characterized by modern teaching methods, quality professional background and versatile equipment. The main focus is on the colourful life stories, extensive professional work and wide patriotic activities of Josef Vojtech Sedlacek (1785-1836) and Josef Frantisek Smetana (1801-1861), canons of the Premonstratensian monastery in Tepla. These prominent educators and personalities of the first half of the 19th century contributed significantly to the development of the Czech language, culture, education and general enlightenment in Pilsen and its wider surroundings. The monograph maps in detail the hitherto unappreciated and overlooked role of the Pilsen Premonstratensians and Pilsen schools in the development of mathematics and science education in our country in the first half of the 19th century. Sold only as a set.
