The book by Trevor Sage, a British engineer who settled permanently in Prague, was published as a tribute to all the victims of the Nazi regime who were given Stolpersteine (stones of the disappeared) in the city. The brass-covered paving stones bring a reminder of the victims of National Socialism between 1933 and 1945 into the public space. The names of the victims are engraved into their surface with the year of birth, the date and place of deportation and their fate. They are placed in the pavement in front of the last place of residence the person may have chosen.
In 2018, the author decided to clean all of Prague's Stolpersteins and eventually compiled a catalogue of them in the form of a book that contains information about all 466 stones of the disappeared placed in Prague until 2021. The book includes photographs of Prague's disappeared stones, portrait photographs of the victims from the National Archives collections, information about the deportations from the Holocaust.cz database, details about the transports from the Yadvashem.org archive, and the moving life stories of the victims, many told by relatives who kindly contributed to the book. The information contained in this book will help to connect Stolperstein to the person to whom it is dedicated, giving the reader a glimpse into the life and fate of a particular person who was a victim of Nazi ideology.
