Juraj Buzalka is a social anthropologist, works at the Comenius University in Bratislava and deals with the topics of social and cultural changes and political movements. In the book he mercilessly looks at the Slovaks, objectively and critically comments on our illusions about ourselves and our fixed ideas about how the world works. He glosses over key events in Slovak history and contemporary life with insight and a liberating insularity. And who are the post-settlers? Post-settlers are modern Slovaks who believe in the ideal of the homeland from agrarian times and behave accordingly. They profess their rural values, which they consider "traditional", elect populist leaders and are often geopolitically confused. They travel the world, master modern technology and live the highest quality of life that members of their family tree have ever lived. And yet they feel that the world is unkind to them, does not take them seriously, and they are not going to beg for it. They mourn melancholy for a world that never was. Their survival strategy is not to have an opinion, i.e. an understandable play for safety in order to maintain the status quo - "just so it doesn't get worse". In this book, we are looking for a way to build a common progressive garden with them.
