In this book, Deyan Kyuranov talks about his documented participation in the so-called Civic Opposition Movement in the Bulgarian capital Sofia between 1987 and 1989, the closing years of the communist regime in the country and in the Soviet bloc. He provides relevant autobiographical details and offers his own analysis of the events. Until 1984, Kyuranov worked as a senior assistant professor of Marxist philosophy at Sofia University. Later, he took up various jobs. He joined a bureaucracy research unit at the university and co-founded the Glasnost and Perestroika Club (these two terms, borrowed from Russian, mean "open government" and "structural reforms", respectively). He also co-founded Ecoglasnost, a major dissident organization.
