This is a compilation of papers from a conference held at Sofia's New Bulgarian University on February 21, 2020, marking the 140th birth anniversary of Bulgarian writer and politician Trifon Kunev (1880-1954). The authors assess Kunev's importance for Bulgarian literature, culture and society in various historical contexts and against the general backdrop of the Bulgarian 20th century. There are many sides to Kunev's complex personality: he was a populist, symbolist, humorist and satirist, a liberal and agrarian, a current affairs analyst, politician and citizen. In addition to analyses of various aspects of his legacy, the book also includes a section titled "Critical Archive", featuring opinions and articles about his work over the years.
